This pea gravel (sometimes called alpine gravel or alpine grit) is ideal for creating a free draining base for chicken runs. The gravel consists of predominantly rounded stones with sizes from 2 to 6mm. This is smaller than the 10mm pea gravel typically sold at builders merchants for driveways.

Some poultry keepers use this gravel to form a drainage layer under sand or woodchip. Others use it as the main coop flooring itself.

The colour of the gravel is mainly brown, pink and cream stones, the colour of which is delightful when wet, see photos for examples.
